Walk like a Steadicam

Nobody from Alok N R on Vimeo.

Our gift to Mr.Ishan Sadwelkar on his last birthday. Last because it has been half a year since his birthday and not because it was the last one of his life. Nikhita n I made this with random footage from here and there. I don't think this was the final version,I think she made a few edits after this, though this is all I have with me.Well here it is anyway, horrible audio and all.

Finger Painting in 40 mins !

A face study done on tinted sheet using poster paint.Used a photograph for reference and since there wasn't any brushes around I used my fingers to paint. The poster paint itself was borrowed from a friend and the three colours (red, purple and black) were all that he had anyway.

The Puss in Peril

The other day I was walking by the third floor corridor toward the only working water  cooler in the building when I heard a really high pitched agonizingly painful MEOW !! Now there was only one creature I knew who could make a cat cry that bad (one which would make even the other cats go like,"Woah, dude! You've sound like horse  taking a dump with a mammoth  furball up his a-hole!"),and that was that nameless fat white cat that roamed about our insti all day, eating from dumpsters and knocking over paint bottles in the stationary store.Goes without saying,I didnt  have much regard for him, though I did find painting his white butt black with poster paint a rather amusing pass time activity.

So I heard the cries and, well, I was curious as to where the meowing was coming from cos he was nowhere around. And after a few good minutes of looking around I gave up on him and left for  the cooler. But spooky as it may sound the same thing happened the following day and the next.I was beginning to wonder if the cat was getting some kick out of this whole invisibility trick.I even joked to my friend that the bastard was dead and was haunting the third floor. And so I told myself.

Untill this morning.

Overnight

An Interpretation of Time

A stop motion film we(Nikhita and myself) made last week,as part of PJ's course,in like six hours or so on the theme 'Time'.(Wrote, shot and edited all in 6hrs mind you). Was trying to explore the stuff we could do with the medium of pixilation. Looking back I feel we could have explored a lot more. But then again we learnt quite a bit.It was crazy being in front of the cam though, trying to react to all the funny things happening around me,while Nix tried to animate them.Had a lot of fun making all those weird sounds for the audio. The audio was later re-used in the birthday clip(the one I last posted).
Hope you find it interesting.

happy bday PJ !

A stop motion (pixilation) short we made for Prosenjit "PJ" Ganguly on the eve of his birthday. ;) Cast n crew of three. Tapan Aslot (the guy who flies, even at 4am in the night) Nishit ( camera man cum post-it co-ordinator) and myself (lead animator on Tapan cum stand by camera man). Shot on a Cannon 1000D (perched precariously at the end of a horizontally placed tripod which in turn was dangerously glued onto the balcony railing with clay and cello-tape).

All that effort paid off when we showed it to PJ the next day (rather unceremoniously in the comp lab). A small surprise party followed.

Hm.. Birthdays sure bring out the best in people.

I'll leave with a quote that I bet PJ himself would vouch for.
